How can it already be February? Can you believe Punxsutawney Phil says six more weeks of winter?! Is there anyone out there who has a tradition of watching Groundhog Day every year? Just me?

Before I get to the fun stuff, I wanted to say a quick thanks for sticking with me as I settle into a routine here. I love reading your comments and I was so excited to see some participation on the last Saturday Shelfie thread

. And I can’t say enough good things about the substack platform. They are continually adding tools and resources to help us grow. I honestly never expected to have ANY paid subscribers
2
- this has been the most surprising and gratifying part.

Let’s Read Nonfiction is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

That’s a good segue to talk about one of the coolest features - the ability to promote other substack newsletters. Thanks to recommendations from the Bookmarked Reads newsletter - I’ve gained 25+ new free subscribers. We both post about nonfiction, but Nicole writes highly intelligent book reviews on a variety of topics. Check her page out!

OK, let’s get to the fun stuff!

The past, present, and future walked into a bar. It was tense.

  • Do you enjoy palindromes? You’ll love this list from Readers Digest

  • This one-page calendar will change how you view the year - Big Think | This article kind of blew my mind. All the numbers/math/journaling geeks will love it, but I don’t know how practical it is since everyone just looks at the calendar on their phone. But I still think it's super cool.

  • Pamela Anderson on her new memoir — and why being underestimated is a secret weapon - NPR | Pamela Anderson is someone who I grew up watching, but not necessarily admiring. From the boobs on Baywatch to the tabloid trash with Tommy Lee, she always seemed like a bad girl who couldn’t find love. This article surprised me and made me a little curious about her new book which is out now.

  • How to Be 18 Years Old Again for Only $2 Million a Year - Bloomberg | File this under WTF! I can’t imagine putting my body through any of this. It honestly sounds insane. It’s interesting that the article starts by listing several well known athletes who have unusual “habits” to keep them young. I’d definitely be curious to see where this guy is in 5-10 years.

  • Kathryn Hahn's Powerful Letter to Her Sexual Self: 'At 44, Life Just Gets Sexier' - Glamour | I loved this essay, its an oldie but still so relevant. Just read it.

  • Why You Should Always Put a Used Book in the Freezer Before Reading It - Well + Good | Do you clean your used books? I thought this had some good advice, particularly when it comes to mold and insects.

  • Nonfiction. The Fragrance. | Did you know there is a beauty brand called Nonfiction? Here’s a blurb from their website. I love the concept, but it may have lost a little something in translation?
